Recent Notes on Archaeological Salvage Research at Sites near Communities to the Southwest of the Yaxha-nakum-naranjo National Park

With a preliminary character, the results of the recently archaeological documentation conducted at the sites of La Quemada Corozal, Ta Aj Corozal and Torre Corozal are presented here. These sites are located southeast of the Yaxha-NakumNaranjo National Park, 8 km north of the village of El Zapote. The preliminary analysis of the information gathered in the field has led to an increased knowledge on the chronological aspects of the time span when these sites were occupied, on construction features, and on the settlements’ configuration. Also, a limited comparative analysis was accomplished with the plaza patterns that form the ceremonial centers, to understand the hierarchical character of the sites located in their surroundings.
